Chateau With a Sense of Humor

I have just put the Chateau de la Goujeonnerie on our must see list for the next trip to the French countryside. Built in 1872, the chateau has the most eccentric interiors.  In the photo above you can see a pair of horse heads with unicorn tusks adjacent to a midcentury modern chandelier. Two oversize African masks sit between traditional French bronze sconces, while mysterious, possibly oriental busts top the Louis XV style chests. All this in a room with crown moldings, raised panels and polished wood floors. Large mirrors proudly reflect on a space worthy of a Fellini film set. I love it, and must make an excuse to visit my family again soon to see this curious chateau in person.
