Off the Wall Gardening

When Patrick Blanc was a boy, he suspended plants from his bedroom wall and ran their roots into a fish tank. Forty-five years later, the French botanist’s vertical gardens have grown massive in scale. The facade of the Atheneum Hotel in London (above) is an eight story antigravity forest composed of 12,000 plants. To learn more about this unique botanist you can see an exhibition of his work at the NY Botanical Garden through April 22.
