Trees of Life

While at the V&A Museum in London I saw a fascinating exhibit of Middle Eastern photography featuring the work of Israeli artist Tal Shouchat. These are real trees shot against a black backdrop, and they remind me of Persian miniature illustrations. Paradoxically, by putting actual trees bursting with fruit or flowers in an artificial environment their power as icons of the natural world is intensified. For me the result is a mesmerizing series of images.
